What to wear running errands this fall | Outfit inspiration
Look your best running errands or at casual events this fall in this simple but classic outfit.
What makes a good errand-running outfit?
Running errands is a fact of life, but I’ve found I enjoy it far more when I look my best. Here are a few criteria that I have for a errand-running outfit that won’t leave me embarrassed to run into someone I know.
- Of course it must be comfortable: errands usually entail a lot of walking and standing, so wearing comfortable, well-fitting clothes is a must. Don’t make the mistake of wearing brand new shoes that haven’t been broken in. Stick with flat-soled, well-fitting shoes with good support that you’ve worn enough to know they won’t cause blisters or pinch your toes.
- Layers are key: you’ll likely be going in and out of buildings, and in the fall weather can be cold. Or weather can be hot, and the air conditioning still be on full blast in the grocery store. Either way, wearing layers will allow you to add or remove the outermost layer as needed to stay comfortable.
- Your purse is also important: make sure you have a bag large enough to hold everything you need. If I’m stopping at the post office, the library, or making returns, I want a bag that can hold all the paperwork, books, and more so I don’t forget something in the car (or at home).
This outfit fits all the criteria. Start with a classic v-neck t-shirt, and layer a versatile utility jacket over the top.
Pair these with your favorite pair of jeans and some converse sneakers. For style of jeans, try the rolled cuff look. All four pieces are classics you can wear year after year.
Finish the look with a designer tote. I love this Tory Burch bag. I’ve had a similar one for over 5 years, and it is still going strong and still in style. It is a manageable size but holds so much.
Love this look? I’d be grateful if you pin it!
Of all the social media sites, I spend the most time on Pinterest – I’d be love to see you there.

Thank you Kim – I love the jacket and wear it often!
I need to update my utility jacket: I have always liked them but my style has changed over the years and I don’t think I still have one.
