A friend asked me to customize a souvenir frame she bought her daughter. Our kids are good friends, and both are going into their senior year of high school. We have so many plans for this last year at home. These kids are not going to put their mementos in a scrapbook like I did eons ago. My friend’s frame is below.

This souvenir frame is such an easy option for anyone to make. I really debated whether to even share it with you all – but the idea is one that I hadn’t ever thought of, so maybe that would be true for you too?

How to make the customized souvenir frame:

  • You’ll need to purchase or make a souvenir frame. If you are good with power tools, you could use any shadow box and cut a hole in the top.
  • Cut out the letters using adhesive vinyl (download my cut file below, or easily type up your own).
  • Weed the excess vinyl away, leaving only the letters on your backing paper.
  • Use transfer paper or contact paper to transfer the letters to the glass.

I prefer the vinyl adhesive for this project to ensure the alignment of the text is straight and uniform (though even then it can be challenging). But for this project you don’t even really need to cut the letters from vinyl.

Easy alternatives to using vinyl letters:

  1. Letter stickers – you can find these pretty much anywhere – the dollar store, Walmart, Amazon…
  2. Stamps – using stamps and ink would work, just be careful not to smudge and let it fully dry. Embossing ink with glittery embossing powder would be really unique.
  3. Stencils – using craft paint with letter stencils gets the job done too.
  4. Calligraphy – your own handwriting can add a special touch as well.
