Share our lives – average day in life
Cade recently participated in a mock interview contest through 4-H. While I was talking with him to prepare him, I encouraged him to think of questions that he might ask his interviewers. An example I gave is one that I am often asked when conducting interviews for my team at work – “What is an average day like?”
I find this to be an interesting question – are there “average days”? I have several common routines in my days – I’m sharing them today, as part of the “share our lives” linkup. I have doubts that my average day is too interesting to anyone. But I think reading about average days for other people would be insightful, so I’m going to give it a shot. I truly live a blessed life, and I am so very thankful.

Most of my days start early, and rarely with an alarm clock. I naturally wake up between 4 and 5, sometimes earlier, sometimes a little later. These quiet early mornings are the best time for me to get my workout in, and often I’ll write on the blog a bit too. My workout consists of a little cardio and mostly of strength training. I do try to walk throughout the day at my treadmill desk, but I could stand to increase my cardio exercise.

By 6:30 on weekdays I am logged in at work, and spend most of those days in meetings related to the projects my team is involved with. I try to finish the day by 4 or 4:30. Fridays I take off early – my goal is to be done by 10am that day – and head to homeschool related groups that we participate in.

After work, I putter around the house a bit. Sometimes I cook supper, and sometimes Kevin does. He always does the dishes, bless that man. I spend a little time chatting with each of my sons. I review the day’s homeschool work with Cade. If Aiden needs any tutoring on his community college math, we’ll spend some time on that together.
There are usually a few projects to be worked on as well. In a week or two, I will be starting my garden seeds indoors, so I’ll check on them each evening. If the lunch or snack supplies are depleted faster than I expect on the weekend, I might make a small batch of something to get us through to the weekend.
I keep a to-do list on my phone using an app called Todoist, so I work through anything I’ve assigned to that day. For example, I have a task assigned to finish addressing Aiden’s graduation announcements today.

By 7pm, I nearly always wrap up any projects, cooking or school-related tasks and head to the sofa in our family room. Kevin and I meet there about that time every night and hang out together. The boys usually migrate there too and hang out for the evening. I may read a book, listen to a podcast or catch up on Facebook. If I fall asleep on the sofa, Kevin will wake me up around 9:45. Then its off to bed to start it all over the next day.
Of course there are days where I actually leave the house. While I try to run most of my errands on Friday, I occasionally make a grocery run on a weeknight. I get together with a friend for dinner, or Kevin and I may have a date night out. We have 4-H meetings and homeschool group gatherings. But otherwise, since I I work from home and we homeschool, this meme pretty much says it all.

I love reading about people’s days and the more average the better. Your day sounds quite busy.
I am looking forward to planting my garden seeds. Good luck with yours.
Oh that homeschool grade meme made me laugh; it’s so true! My youngest is touring colleges and he’s like a deer in the headlights whenever anyone asks that question. I mean technically he’s a junior in high school but takes a few classes at the community college and we have curriculum from a variety of grades that we use each year. And yep; 2020 felt so normal for us! LOL.
You have very long workdays. I struggle with a 7 1/2 hour work day. I am going to look into that app — Todoist sounds right up my alley!!!
Those quiet mornings are my absolute favourite time – we also homeschool and I work from home so getting that stillness in the morning is good for my soul.
