Genius repurposed Starbucks bottles | frugal upcycled spice jars

Make your own spice jars for almost nothing by repurposing Starbucks bottles and some labels. I’m sharing the cut files I used to make my labels for free below. But if you don’t use a Cricut or similar machine, no worries – there are lots of other options for labeling the bottles.

What containers to use for spice jars?

  1. Starbucks Frappuccino bottles
  2. Glass peanut butter jars
  3. Glass tomato sauce or salsa jars
  4. Mason jars
  5. Amazon also sells glass spice jar sets

My son likes the Starbucks Frappuccino Caramel chilled coffee as a special treat every now and then. The bottles remind me of little old-fashioned milk bottles. As I’ve been buying more organic spices in bulk and making my own seasonings, I needed a good way to store both the spices and the seasonings I make with them. Glass bottles avoid concerns about potential chemical exposure from plastic, so these bottles were exactly what I’d been looking for.

How to prep a repurposed jar to reuse

Prepping a repurposed glass jar is relatively easy.

  1. Peel off any stickers.
  2. You might need to use Goo-Gone to remove the sticky residue if necessary, just make sure to be in a well ventilated location and wear gloves. Some jars have ink on them, such as an expiration date – the Goo Gone will take this right off.
  3. Thoroughly wash the jar, either by hand or in the dishwasher.
  4. Allow the jar to dry completely.

Options for labeling your spice jars

  • Many dollar stores sell letter stickers. You won’t be washing spice jars very often, so these may do the trick.
  • Handwrite the label with a Sharpie. I’ve seen some really cute chalkboard stickers that would serve as a background for a handwritten label.
  • For a longer lasting label, use permanent adhesive vinyl cut with a Cricut or similar machine.

I’m sharing the labels I used (for over 20 common spices), along with a circle cut exactly the right size for the Starbucks bottles, are free for download below.
