3 times to use these women’s scarf styling ideas
Do you own some scarves but rarely wear them? Here are three occasions when you should pull those scarves out and put them on:
- Transition from one season to another: One of my favorite times to add a scarf to my outfit is as the seasons transition. Layering a scarf over an outfit from a warmer outgoing season can add the extra warmth needed, especially in chilly mornings or cooler evenings. Likewise, in the transition from a colder outgoing season, you may be able to forego a coat, or use a lighter jacket if you add in the scarf. Keeping your neck warm helps so much. Here is an example of a transition outfit using the oversized scarf I mentioned earlier:

- Dressing up a casual outfit: There is something about a scarf that adds dimension to your outfit. If you want to take a casual outfit and up the style, adding a scarf is a great way to do just that. Here is an example with leggings and a tunic top, which isn’t much to notice on its own until you add in the scarf.

- Versatility: A scarf can be worn in many different ways—around the neck, draped over the shoulders, as a head wrap, or even as a belt. This makes the scarf a practical addition for a variety of occasions and outfits. There are also many types of scarves (more on that below). In this post, I’m sharing a shawl-style scarf, but these concepts work with other types.
7 options for women’s scarf styling
As a favorite and versatile accessory for women, there are endless ways to style scarves. Scarves are a great option for long hair or short, and are and easy way to create a new style out of your old outfits.
Option 1: Jeans and long-sleeve t-shirt with tall heeled ankle booties
One of the easiest ways to add a scarf to your outfit rotation on a regular basis is to pair a scarf with outfits you already wear. If you are like me, jeans and a long-sleeve t-shirt are already a standard outfit for an average day. But that easy go-to outfit can quickly start to look frumpy and unkempt. Add in a scarf and some trendy footwear, and all that frump disappears. I love that this outfit is so comfortable, and so basic, but still stylish. The ankle booties are Toms brand, which is one of my favorites for comfort.

Option 2: Use the scarf for a pop of color
Adding a scarf to this otherwise gray outfit is a fun way to add a pop of color to a classic look. The gray jeans and mock neck sweater are stylish, but not eye-catching until the folded scarf is wrapped on. While this outfit is very casual, right down to the relaxed gray trendy loafers, you’ll still look like you spent a lot of time looking great.

Option 3: Take a classic look to the next level
One of my favorite techniques to amplify the style of an outfit is to start with a classic outfit, like these jeans and cashmere crewneck sweater, and then add in a gorgeous accessory. Adding the blue and gray plaid scarf to this outfit is a fantastic way to accessorize an already classy outfit.

Option 4: Pair the scarf with a dress
I’ve paired scarves with dresses before (like here and here), but this denim dress is so cute on its own. I wanted to find more simple ways to style it uniquely. Adding a scarf makes the dress outfit look a bit dressier, especially when paired with a bracelet watch, Michael Kors shoulder bag and ankle booties.

Option 5: Accessorize lounge wear
Jeggings and a long sleeve tunic are comfy for every day around the house. Adding in the scarf is a playful way to turn this into an outfit to wear out and about as well. The light blue court sneakers add another pop of color I love.

Option 6: Classic accessory on a trendy outfit
With the light blue loafers and designer blue purse paired with white jeans, this outfit is trendy on its own. But I love the balance that comes from adding in the versatile scarf as a classic accessory.

Option 7: Easy season transition outfit
Layer the wrapped scarf around your neck paired with this waffle knit top and quilted vest for a little extra warmth during the season transitions.
