Hello Monday – 02/17/25
Monday is here again, and I am linking up with Sarah and Holly, sharing what we’ve been up to while taking a deep breath and diving into the week ahead.

Before diving into the recent events, here’s a recap of what I shared last week:
Last week was one of the hardest I’ve had in a while, with work-related stress and multiple items of discouraging personal news. I would be grateful if you would keep my family and I in your prayers.

Despite all of that, there is still so much to be thankful for, including quite a bit of time spent with loved ones.
Monday, after I chaperoned the youth bowling gathering, I went to visit a friend who had just gotten out of the hospital. We visited and worked together on a craft project she was making for Valentine’s Day.
Tuesday was just a day filled with work and work stress. I AM thankful for my job, and usually really enjoy my career as an actuary. I spent some of the evening working with my younger son on his math assignments. I also really enjoy working with my boys on their math – but I still find this to be hilarious:

Wednesday was crazy busy. I started the day at the gym at 5am, where I’ve been working on strength training with a personal trainer once a week. Then worked all day (more work stress).
Wednesday evening we had a dinner with several friends at a restaurant where we’d never eaten before. This group of friends is a unique bunch – we met through a Facebook group related to a podcast we all listen to called ChooseFI. It is so refreshing to have the opportunity to talk with others who have similar hopes and dreams. And one member of the group brought along the most delicious cake flight for dessert. I’d never heard of a “cake flight”, but they are basically cake tasting boxes with small slices of several different types of cakes. I wish I had taken a picture, it was so pretty!
On our way home from dinner we stopped to visit with Kevin’s parents.
Thursday was another long and stressful day at work, followed by a hair appointment. When I arrived home, Kevin surprised me with flowers! This picture is from Saturday – the lilies started wilting a bit, but they are still beautiful!

Friday we had planned an overnight date night to Louisville. My husband had a free hotel night that was about to expire, so I had booked a hotel night for us, not really intending to make it on Valentine’s Day. But I needed to pick up an order I’d placed with our food buying club there, and this weekend was the best option for our schedule. So we ended up braving the Valentine’s Day crowds and going out that night – for the first time in 24 years!
While he drove us to Louisville, I added us to the Texas Roadhouse wait list about 30 minutes before we were due to arrive using their phone app. And it was a good thing, because there were dozens of people in the waiting area when we arrived even though it was only 4:30 pm. We checked in and were seated in less than 10 minutes!
After dinner, we checked into our hotel, roamed the nearby mall, stopped at Trader Joe’s and then relaxed at our hotel. I bought my husband some peanut butter cups, and each of our sons some stroopwafels.

The hotel was so cold – our bedroom thermostat said 56 degrees when we entered and it took a long time to warm up. When we got back from our shopping, it was still only 63 – I took a photo to prove it! Fortunately, my son gave me an electric lap blanket for Christmas. I brought it to use in the car, and it was a lifesaver in the hotel.

Saturday, I woke up super early. While Kevin slept, I enjoyed creating some outfit inspiration for the blog (one of my favorite hobbies). Then, we had breakfast at the hotel and headed out to pick up my order at the buying club before heading home. Our hometown was affected by the floods that hit so many parts of Kentucky this past weekend. We live in a rural subdivision, with one road leading to our home. That road tends to easily flood in both directions. I breathed a big sigh of relief when we were able to safely reach home.
Not only did the access road to our subdivision flood overnight Saturday night, but we also had unexpected snow. We were stranded at home Sunday morning unable to get to church, but I am just thankful we were warm and dry together. This pretty much sums up my Sunday:

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

So sorry last week wasn’t a good one. Thinking of you and your family.
It sounds like you had a lovely time with your friends on Wednesday and the flowers are just beautiful! Good on you going out for Valentine’s Day, my fella and I did for the first time in around 17 years.
I hope the weather has improved today, flooding and snow is no fun.
Sorry you are having a rough time – it is never easy when there is family stress. I am glad you had a nice time with your husband though – I love those nights away 🙂
I hope this week is so much better for you! Man I hate when hotels take so long to get the temp you need.
Lovely flowers – it’s always nice to be surprised with a bouquet. I hope you have a better week this time.
Wishing you a much less stressful week at work. Your Valentine/Date Weekend sounded amazing 🙂
That night away sounds like it was wonderful (if chilly!).
Sorry to hear that last week wasn’t a good one for you, sending positivity to you for a much better one this week.
Your meal with friends sounds lovely, I’ve heard of a beer flight before but not a cake one, lots of small tastings of different cakes sound much better.
How unusual for the hotel to be cold, we usually end up asking for a fan when we stay at one, it’s good that you had the electric blanket on hand.
I hope the weather has been a bit kinder to you this week.
Sending prayers for you and your family. I love that you and your husband got away for a night. So sorry to hear about the floods and snow. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful looks!\
