Is it too soon to be thinking about what to wear to Thanksgiving gatherings? It may be too soon to start prepping the cranberry salad, but you don’t have to wait to make this custom shirt for yourself, a family member or a friend.

How to use a Cricut to make custom t-shirts

Customizing basic, inexpensive t-shirts is my absolute favorite way to use my Cricut. Here is what you need to know:

Pre-wash your blank t-shirt. This step is important because if your shirt shrinks in the wash, your design could be ruined.
Purchase quality heat transfer vinyl (HTV). Yes, there are cheap options out there, but they often are hard to use and don’t hold up well. Cricut brand has worked well for me. Test new brands you haven’t used before on scraps.
Make sure to set your Cricut machine to “mirror” when cutting the HTV.
Check the heat settings needed for your HTV brand (Cricut’s heat guide), and follow the instructions that come with the HTV.
