Beach Capsule Wardrobe Articles
Every item in this capsule is available on Amazon. But you may not need to buy anything – see how to shop your own closet first using five easy steps to create your own beach vacation capsule wardrobe. Here’s the quick summary:
5 easy steps to create a beach vacation capsule wardrobe:
- Choose three tops in the same color palette. Include some variety in material and pattern.
- Select two bottoms that coordinate every top. Keep the bottoms simple.
- Add a layering item; pick a solid color in a color to coordinate with the tops.
- Pick a comfortable dress that can serve as both a swimsuit cover-up and an outfit for a casual night out.
- Accessorize! Choose a pair of flip-flops and some sandals, and add in a cute bag – maybe even one that can serve as your beach bag too.

Each item in the capsule was chosen to coordinate. You can mix and match any top with any bottom. And I always bring along a layer to wear in those air conditioned restaurants and shops, so I’ve got you covered there too.
This capsule also includes a tank dress that can serve dual purposes. Use it as a swimsuit cover-up by day, and pair it with your jacket layer to look great for a night out to dinner.
Styling Variations
I first heard about the concept of a capsule wardrobe when I was determined to declutter our house before we moved from Illinois to Kentucky back in 2016. So why should you use a capsule wardrobe?
Benefits of a capsule wardrobe
- A capsule wardrobe is easy to pack, both coming and going. If you are flying, a carry-on is all you need. If you are driving, you’ll have plenty of room to stretch your legs.
- Capsule wardrobes mean less laundry – fewer clothes means fewer clothes to wash, and who doesn’t love that! You can combine your clothes with your towels or sheets and do fewer total loads.
- A big benefit is the elimination of decision fatigue when picking your clothes. You already make enough decisions each day – just grab a top and a bottom and you’ll know they look great together.
- An intentional closet also saves time and money. Fewer clothes means spending less of your hard-earned dollars, and spending less of your free time shopping for clothes.
- Your home will be less cluttered. If you have a capsule wardrobe, you likely won’t be piling your “not-quite-dirty-enough-to-wash” clothes up on the side of the bathtub or on your treadmill.
- You’ll always look sharp. Each item in your wardrobe coordinates, making it easy to grab a fantastic outfit quickly.
- When you use a capsule wardrobe, you can invest in higher quality, more expensive pieces, while still saving money overall.
I’ll share my in-depth opinions and experience on capsule wardrobes in a future post soon.
